Frustration Boils Over

UNC 84, NC State 70

I’m officially fed up with this year’s Wolfpack team.  I don’t know what the problem is, but I’m beginning to think NC State has a bunch of coddled babies on it’s team.   Last night’s game showed me just how little these players care.  If it wasn’t taking plays off on defense or offense, it was their unwillingness to even attempt to help out their teammates in times of need.  In the first half, when things were going good, they looked like the cohesive unit that they should be.  They played hard, and executed on offense.  Well, until UNC took the lead, that is.

NCAAT Hopes Are Futile

The dreams and expectations of Wolfpack Nation came to a screeching halt at the RBC Center on Saturday as the Tigers from Clemson handed the Wolfpack of NC State it’s third straight defeat, virtually slamming the door shut on any post season aspirations for the Pack. In order to make the NCAAT, State will now need to win the ACCT.

BC 82, NC State 65

Grant and rice

Last night in Chestnut Hill the Wolfpack of NC State fell hard to BC. Not only did the Pack lose the game, but they also lost most hope of making the NCAAT. It’s been well documented here that I felt the Pack needed to finish the season 9 – 7 in the ACC in order to make the Big Dance, but now that task is even more vaunting than before. With games with Clemson, UNC and Duke all left on the schedule, the Pack needs to go an astounding 5 – 1 to reach my benchmark. Not even the most optimistic Pack fan could honestly admit the possibility of that.

Sometimes Even I Couldn’t Make This Stuff Up

Anyone happen to catch last night’s finish between Georgetown and Villanova? What was a painful game to watch, ended in a frenetic fashion that even I couldn’t make up. If you haven’t seen it yet, check this out:

I don’t often point at the officials, but this is just blatantly retarded. How a game like this could be decided by freethrows with 0.1 seconds on the clock is beyond the realm of possibility. The Big East decided to chime in today as well. How they can support this call is unfathomable. The Big East should have done the right thing, the extremely rare thing, and reprimanded the officials. All of them. No, they can’t change what happened, but they don’t have to blindly support their employees like this.

As for whether or not Georgetown should have “accepted” the call, as I have heard argued in various circles, that’s just ludicrous. You take a win any way that you can, and they probably would have won in OT anyway. That is besides the point, however. The Big East should be ashamed of not only it’s officials, but in itself entirely.

Crunch Time is Officially Here for the Pack

This is more like it. When I envisioned the current version of Wolfpack basketball, I pictured an up and down game with solid defense and punishing offense. I pictured McCauley and Hickson down on the blocks and giving teams fits. I pictured Javi Gonzalez running the show better than people were expecting, and Degand and Johnson providing sparks in the offense. I pictured a rotation at the point, and in the post, that would keep the legs fresh the entire game while continuing to give the opposition different looks thus preventing them from getting comfortable.
