Recruiting Watch – Class of 2007 Revisited

Sidney in Red

With all the question marks on NC State’s men’s basketball team, it’s time to examine when help is going to arrive, and whether or not it’s going to be worth waiting for. Head coach Sidney Lowe has taken a lot of heat for his ability to coach and handle his program. One major aspect, and possibly the most important piece to the puzzle, is recruiting.

We’ll take a quick look back at the 2007 class after the jump. Continue reading ‘Recruiting Watch – Class of 2007 Revisited’

The Idiot’s Brackets

If you need a reset of the brackets, check out Perry’s work over on Off The Record. He broke down all four regions and gave some thoughts. If you want my thoughts, you are welcome to them after the jump.

Can we exhale now?

It’s official, Terrelle Pryor will be suiting up for the Buckeyes of Ohio State.

Red Sox Players Making a Stand?

Rotoworld.com is the best place to go for news on players in any sport. I’ve been pushing them on you for a while now, and it is still my first stop for sports news. They informed me about the situation in Boston this morning, which is pretty cool.

Apparently, when the MLBPA agreed to the deal to send the Red Sox and A’s to Japan, they negotiated a $40K appearance fee for the players and coaches. Word got out yesterday that the coaches might get shorted, and the Red Sox players are having none of it. We often see coaches and players stick up for one another. This is something new, though, as the entire squad is threatening to stay in the US if their coaches don’t get paid.

Pryor Decides Today – A Nation Holds It’s Breath.

Terrelle Pryor will announce his college choice today at noon. This is the day we have all been waiting for. I mean, who hasn’t been pining for this day ever since Pryor had a presser to announce that he wasn’t announcing? ESPN.com writer Henry Gola has a good timeline of this ongoing saga. While I do not wish anything bad on anyone, it is going to be hard to pull for this kid in college. Especially since I am a fan of neither school he has left on the table (Michigan and Ohio State).

Captain Obvious is in the house!

JJ Hickson is entering the NBA draft. Well I’ll be damned. Did anyone not see this coming? Our friends at Thee Blog @ 850 pointed it out well today. People can say whatever they want to, but there is absolutely no reason that JJ should not test the waters. Just like there was no reason for Damien Wilkins to do so either. These kids are not hiding their aspirations and intent, and they were not hiding them when State recruited, or when we all welcomed them aboard. We should all want what is best for the kid and his family, and if that were to turn out to be a lottery pick then so be it. I do not think he will be a first round pick, so I think he will be back in Raleigh next year.

The question is whether or not the Pack would be better off without him. That is just crazy. How could any team be better off without a player of Hickson’s caliber? Everything we hear is that he has a similar work ethic to Julius Hodge, who could often be found in the gym past midnight. Were there chemistry issues this year? Absolutely. Were they JJ’s fault? I really do not think so, and that is a discussion for another entry. Has JJ given us any reason to think that he is a bad teammate? Nothing comes to mind at the moment. Players with the potential of Hickson do not come around very often, at least not at NC State. Whether he is using us as one big tryout for the NBA or not, we should enjoy his play while we can. If State can only get better, then it only makes sense that Hickson would be a huge part of that. Without Hickson, it will be a much more difficult climb.

While trolling for pictures, I stumbled across this article on JJ from 2006 by Jon Mahoney.

The bubble has burst.

So now that the field of 65 is official, we finally have proof of whether or not my past Bubble Alerts (11th, 12th, 15th) have been worth time. We can also see how I did in my March Madness preview for Blastmagazine.com. Complete breakdowns after the jump.
