Friend of The Sports Idiot Sean, from 27Pitches.com, has been trying to get me to check out Draftbug.com for a while now. Yesterday, I finally took the leap, competing in their second Draftbug Blogger Invitational. Before giving the results, here is a quick rundown of how it works.
You get a certain amount of points to spend on players, and you draft the standard nine positions accordingly. The better the player, the more points they cost. Everyone in the league pulls from the same pool of players, and players can be on multiple squads. You get various points based on performance, like you would in a points league.
Yesterday’s game had a 1200 point cap, and I put together the following squad: Adam Jones (OF), Michael Bourn (OF), Jacoby Ellsbury (OF), Albert Pujols (1B), Ben Zobrist (2B), Pablo Sandoval (3B), Ryan Theriot (SS), Brian McCann (C), Clay Buchholz (SP).
Well, Ellsbury did not play due to an illness, and it cost me the win. I came in 2nd place by one lousy point to Ryan over at www.LestersLegends.com.
Bottom line, it was fun and I will certainly do it again. I would advise any of you with a few extra minutes to check out Draftbug.com and give it a spin. You may think it sucks, you may really dig it. Personally, I thought it was pretty damned cool.
