Well, according to Heather Dinich he is. Of course, here in Wolfpack Nation we feel that he is the best player in the entire country, but what do we know? He has only played one year under center for the Pack, and he already holds the record for most passes thrown without an INT. As a matter of fact, he only threw one to the enemies last season overall. Hopefully his time playing baseball this Summer does not effect his ability to find the open man or thread the needle. Of course, if it does, Mike Glennon is willing, ready and able to step in.
Wilson is only the 3rd member of the NC State football team to make Heather’s list of the top 50 players in the ACC, joining Willie Young at #9 and Nate Irving at #19. Expect the number of Pack players on this list to increase next Summer, as head coach Tom O’Brien is tearing up the recruiting trails and building his program the right way. The trenches are going to be a battle in the future, and the ex-Marine knows something about winning in the trenches.
Well, according to Matthew Hayes of The Sporting News they are. He has Florida at number one, followed by Oklahoma, Texas, Mississippi and then the Wolfpack of NC State. He only has one sentence about the Pack, and claims that Mike Glennon may steal the starting job from Russell Wilson. That would not make Todd very happy, or our good friend Heather Dinich, who pointed us to this link to begin with.
If you are counting, that is two straight entries thanks to Heather.
Well, according to the lovely Heather Dinich he is. As she counts down her list of the top 30 players in the conference, we will continue to alert you to the NC State Wolfpack players on the list. Young, a 5th year Senior DE, is the second player to make Heather’s list Nate Irving was number 19. So go to the entry and give both Willie and Heather some love in the comments section. At least until we see where she puts Russell Wilson (top three is expected Heather).
With baseball being the only sport going right now, other than the occasional golf tourney worth watching, we know a lot of you are pining for the fall and the start of football. NC State’s upcoming season is looking like it could be a pretty good one, and it is nice to have that to look forward to. Of course, here at The Sports Idiot we love baseball with a passion, so we do not want the season to get here too quickly.
It is no secret that we are big fans of Mike Missanelli of ESPN950 out of Philly. Yesterday, he had Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr on to discuss Brad Lidge being put on the 15 day Prior List. Sounds to me like dude’s knee might actually be fine, and that they want Lidge to work through his mechanical issues in the Minors rather than Flushing Meadows. Mikey Miss had the same feeling. Throw in the fact that Lidge was not happy at all with the decision and we have the makings of testy situation in the Philadelphia bully. The good news is that the Phils have Charlie Manuel, who I think is one of the best managers in baseball, and if anyone can get Lidge comfortable with this decision it is “Uncle Charlie”.
Personally, I do think Lidge has something wrong with his knee, and that he thinks he can pitch through it. I do not think that his knee is why he was placed on the Prior List, however. That move was made to protect Lidge’s state of mind. If dude were to go into Queens and blow a save, he might once again fall into the death spiral of fail that paved his way out of Houston.
It is no secret that I think Heather Dinich is doing a fine job over at ESPN.com. She covers ACC football on her blog, and after rubbing elbows with the ACC coaches for the spring meetings, she has put together her current power rankings. It is really early for stuff like this, but it is also a lot of fun at the same time. Especially if you are an NC State Wolfpack fan, whom Heather has pegged as her number two team in the entire ACC, behind only the Hokies of Virginia Tech.
Heather, Wolfpack Nation would like to thank you for not being like a lot of the other “journalists” around the country who take every chance they can to pile on the Pack. While I think you are quite optimistic about my beloved Wolfpack’s upcoming season, it is nice to see them being portrayed in a positive light and as an up and coming beast. Can you start the Russell Wilson for Heisman campaign for us?
Heather Dinich, who I think is doing a fine job over at ESPN.com, has a new entry up about the Wolfpack. Actually, if centers on the defensive unit, and how improved it is. She also once again states that Russell Wilson is the best QB in the ACC.
Heather Dinich has a nice, quick read about Mike Glennon. Basically, Glennon has bulked up and worked on his release point and footwork. The game has “slowed down” for him, and he expects to compete for the job of staring quarterback at NC State next season. That is a hard goal to reach, when you consider that Russell Wilson is arguably the best quartback in the ACC. And no, Glennon will not leave if he does not start this year. With Wilson being a baseball player first, this next season may very well be his last on the gridiron.
Last night as I was flipping through the channels, I kept reading on ESPN’s bottom line about the Imus “scandal”. I found it quite humorous, because earlier in the day I stumbled across this article. What is ironic is that I didn’t stumble across it on ESPN.com. I stumbled across it on Deadspin.
