Hat tip to Bomani Jones at 620 the Bull, who has learned that John Wall will be playing for John Calipari at Kentucky. Good for them, they can have the swirling mist of controversy and bad news that this kid could bring with him. We know one thing, Ashley will be happy.
We are very happy to report that the NCAA has decided to institute an ethics committee. Good for them. Our only question is why this did not happen 25 years or so ago. Long overdue, people, long overdue. Heading up the new commission will be current University of Michigan coach John Beilein. First stop should be some little school in southern California, only it is a little unclear as to what this commission is going to actually do. At first glance, it looks like it is going to help educate coaches on the rules and bylaws of the NCAA so that coaches do not accidentally get themselves in trouble.
It isn’t that the rules need to be clarified, it is that some of the rules need to be thrown away, and other rules need to be enforced with an iron fist. The NCAA is nothing more than the Palm at this point. If you are the right guy, and coaching the right school, then you get the nice big table in the corner. If you are not said guy, you either wait four hours or get the spot by the kitchen or bathroom. We will wait and see what this committee actually does when it is up and running before making any judgements on it, but first glance says that this is just another pig with lipstick on it.
