Nick Freaking Swisher

Back on April 16th we told you to add Nick Swisher.  It has taken him a while, but he finally paid us back tonight by going yard not once, but twice against the Tigers.  In the process he brought home four RBIs and brought his OPS back up to 1.136.  Dude is still available in 50% of Yahoo leagues, so those of you riding out Berkman need to consider picking up Swisher.  He is eligible at first and in the outfield, so he has flexibility value as well.

Douche Bag of the Week – April 22nd, 2009

It has been a while since we called anyone a douche bag, so I guess that means this is overdue.  It looks like Nick Swisher told Ken Rosenthal that Joe Girardi the best manager he has ever worked under.  Seems that some guy in Chicago took offense to it.  Hit the jump for more. Prior List Update – April 16, 2009

Several people were placed on the Prior List yesterday, so here is a quick rundown of a few and the fantasy impact for you:

Chris Carpenter.  If he keeps this up, this may become the Carpenter List soon.  Dude was a risky draft selection as it was, so I hope no one selected him too early.  This time it is a “left rib cage strain”, but it looks like he could miss at least three weeksMitchell Boggs will likely get the call in his place.  You may recall that last year we told you to stay the hell away from Boggs.  That advice has not changed.

Xavier Nady.  Looks like dude is headed for Tommy John surgery.  Sucks for him, but is great news for Nick Swisher.  If you have not seen what Swisher is doing, you better see if he is still available in your league.  He’s 1B/OF eligible, so that is a bonus as well.  Swisher is a must add right now.

Daisuke Matsuzaka.  The Red Sox put him on the 15 Day Prior List due to what is being labeled as “arm fatigue”.  This could mean a few spot starts for Clay Buchholz, the top pitching prospect in the Boston system, or it could mean it’s Justin Masterson time as well.  Do not be fooled by them calling up Hunter Jones, and proceed with caution until you know who will get the nod.  Depending on the matchup, either Buchholz or Masterson could be good plays.  It should be noted that Masterson is already in the Majors.

Braves Updates – Updated

Dave O’Brien, more commonly know to Braves’ fans as DOB, now says that the Braves have both offered Tom Glavine a contract and are no longer pursueing Will Ohman.  Both of these announcements come as no real surprise, even if we don’t agree with them.

The Ohman thing is interesting, if only from the aspect of dude thinking he is worth way more than he really is.  Seriously, Ohman may have had a decent WHIP at 1.24 and ERA at 3.68 in 2008, but he did not exactly set the world on fire.  He isn’t even Ryan Madson, who posted better numbers across the board while pitching in a hitter’s park.

It also looks like the Braves will not be bringing back Andruw Jones, who wants a Major League deal with promised playing time.  He can’t even get that from the Rangers, though, so who knows if he will swallow his pride and come back to the Braves on a Minor League deal with an invite to Spring Training.  If he wants to do that, though, he better move quickly because the Braves have been pursuing a deal with the Yankees to bring in Nick Swisher.

The Braves are also considering Bobby Abreu and Adam Dunn, but how likely either of these two options are is unknown.  My gut tells me Abreu is more likely, but I would rather see Swisher out in left field than Abreu.  In order for either Abreu or Dunn to get added they will have to accept deals at or less than $9mil for 2009.

Update

Apparently Andruw Jones has swallowed his pride and taken the minor league offer from the Rangers.  This is a strange move in my eyes, because he would have had a better shot in Atlanta than in Texas, looking at current outfield situations.
